My first sculpture for the new millennium, GENERATIONS depicts a mother Humpback Whale and her daughter. So long as moments like this happen, so long as the Great Whales are found free in the oceans, that long only, will this planet be a fit home for all of us. |

The Pacific Promise was commissioned by Pacific Life Insurance Company for its corporate headquarters in Newport Beach, California. It is the most accurate depiction of Humpback Whales I have ever dome, and I believe, my finest sculpture to date. At over twenty feet tall, it is also one of the largest "indoor" sculptures of recent times. PACIFIC PROMISE 1/18 SCALE is the actual model from which the sculpture was enlarged. |

THE PROMISE depicts a Humpback mother with her newborn calf, resting in warm tropical waters. The baby Humpback is its' mothers' promise to the future of her species. This sculpture, together with the rest of my work, is my promise to do whatever I can to insure their survival. |

There is a spiritual quality to all of the big whales. Seeing them engenders a sense of awe, that we share this planet with such creatures. The big whales give a rhythm to the seas and the seasons by their presence and their travels. Blue whales are probably the largest animals ever to have lived, and are certainly the largest alive today. They reach lengths well over 100 feet, and weights in excess of 160 tons. Blue whale calves, born off the Pacific coast of southern Mexico and Central America, spend the winter with their mothers in the waters of the central Gulf of California. Always traveling, the blues congregate to feed in places where currents force cold, nutrient rich waters to the surface. In the spring, the blues start up the Pacific coast, spending the late summer and early fall here in Monterey Bay, before turning south to complete the cycle. |
